Marseille: Residents of northern districts mobilize to restrain attacked doctor
In Marseille, residents of the La Viste district are mobilizing to try to keep a young general practitioner close to them. This practitioner settled in the northern districts at the beginning of the summer, before being violently attacked on August 12 in her office.
“We care about you and we are here,” affirms support for the young doctor, attacked on August 12, 2024. In front of her medical office, many people have gathered. For the first time since her attack, the practitioner speaks out: “I chose to come here. I had offers to go and work elsewhere and it was really a choice.“On August 12, in her office, she was allegedly hit, bitten and scratched by two patients for an undelivered prescription.
“It’s serious for the neighborhood, because it’s losing doctors and people who can listen,” explains a resident. Now in the health center, there is only one general practitioner left. And in the northern districts of Marseille, there are 69 doctors per 100,000 inhabitants, compared to 125 nationally.
