Eurozapping: Northern Ireland civil servants on strike
Eurozapping: Northern Ireland civil servants on strike – (franceinfo)
Like every evening, the 11 p.m. news news takes a look at the news broadcast by European television channels. It’s Eurozapping on Thursday January 18.
This is a historic strike for civil servants in Northern Ireland. Teachers, drivers, nurses, there were nearly 100,000 to demonstrate on Thursday January 18: something never seen in Northern Ireland for half a century. Their demand: better salaries. In fact, they are paid less than in England or Wales. For two years, the country has no longer had a regional government, which has caused negotiations to be blocked.
Snow blocks German roads
Thousands of people were stranded on highways in central and southern Germany on Thursday January 18. The snowfall takes its toll and angers a motorist: “There is at least 20 centimeters of snow: it has not been cleared. I never imagined that in Germany we would not be more reactive”. Other transport such as trains and planes were also disrupted by bad weather.
