The WRC rally at Ypres in Belgium was won by Estonian driver Ott Tänak (Hyundai) this Sunday, ahead of the Toyotas of Briton Elfyn Evans and Finn Esapekka Lappi. This last day of racing was marked by the Ford Puma of northerner Adrien Fourmaux going off the road during the penultimate special.
His car rolled over in a ditch
At the start, the driver from Seclin (Nord) was in fifth place and was aiming for fourth place for the best result of his career. But when exiting a bend, his car rolled over in a ditch. Adrien Fourmaux and his co-driver Alexandre Coria are got out of the car after the accidentbut no details were given on their state of health. “I haven’t been well since a while ago”, repeats Adrien Fourmaux in a video of the crash in which we hear the voices of the pilots.
The penultimate special was interrupted while the emergency services intervened. With this incident, these are five of the ten WRC premier class competitors who went off the road this weekend in Belgium, notably former leader Thierry Neuville.
Last year, Adrien Fourmaux had already been forced to quit after a first exit from the road during the third special on this same rally, in Ypres. The 27-year-old driver was then the victim of another crash in Monte Carlo and an exit from the road in Croatia.
