That’s it and don’t think of a polar bear or Santa Claus, no, I’m talking about a writer. He’s American too, his name is Peter Geye, he was born and raised in Minneapolis and he lived with his maternal grandmother of Norwegian origin who was able to tell him stories that fascinated him as a child.
His latest novel “L’homme de l’hiver” was the first to be translated into French, a success. So here is the second one coming out this April 6 “North of the North”. Peter Geye goes again bring the Eide family back to life who inhabits Gunflint, an imaginary small town in Minnesota for several generations and novels by Geye. Some compare him to William Faulkner as his writing has breath.
And if you like stories from the cold, I have some recommendations for you. As we know, the Nordics excel in the art of crime fiction. How not to tell you about the excellent Millenium by Swedish Stieg Larson which has sold millions around the world! If you haven’t read or seen them yet, now is the time to get started.
And of course there is Anne Radge, everything she writes is honestly absolutely wonderful! Here start with “Zona frigisa” where his rebellious 35-year-old heroine drinks, smokes and has a very free sexuality when she decides on a whim to go on a cruise to the far north without giving any explanation to her loved ones. She will therefore travel to Spitsbergen and share with us, readers, everything she will see: seals, polar bears, fjords and glaciers. A real treat to read warm under the duvet. Enjoy it it came out at 10/18.
And finally, I also advise you Jo Nesbo’s books. But beware, sensitive souls abstain. He is Norwegian and loves to scare us. Its hero is recurring and is an inspector in Oslo. He travels the world in the course of his investigations for our greatest pleasure. Don’t hold back Nesbo is very prolix, you will have the choice of titles!
