North of Quebec | A man would have killed his wife in Lebel-sur-Quévillon

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) opened an investigation on Thursday into the discovery of the bodies of a man and a woman who were a couple, in a residence in Lebel-sur-Quévillon, in the Nord-du- Quebec. Everything indicates that it would be a murder followed by a suicide.

Officially, the police force confirms for the moment only very few details. Its investigators limit themselves to saying that the Crimes Against Persons Investigation Service “is currently trying to shed light on the circumstances” of the situation.

In the morning, around 9 a.m., the two bodies were found by the police in a dwelling in Place Rivest, in Lebel-sur-Quévillon.

Still according to our information, it was someone close to the woman who reported his concern to the authorities, having heard little from her. According to a police source who is not authorized to speak publicly, the man would have first killed his wife before killing himself. Some media reported on Thursday that a gun was allegedly used.

The ongoing investigation will, however, confirm a series of elements. The SQ could in particular meet witnesses in the neighborhood, in order to learn more about the situation of the couple. She will provide more details once the investigative work is completed.

A large security perimeter was erected around the residence on Thursday to let the investigators work. Forensic identification technicians also attended the scene.

In 2021, 17 suspected femicides took place, a sharp increase from 8 the previous year. In 2022, others have already taken place, particularly in the Dunham and Laval sectors, in recent weeks.
