North Korea fired multiple rocket launchers, Seoul claims

Pyongyang continues its provocations. The South Korean army claims that North Korea fired, Sunday, July 10, with what appears to be multiple rocket launchers. Seoul says it has detected “flight paths” which are likely North Korean artillery fire, the Joint Chiefs of Staff in Seoul said. “Our military has increased surveillance and vigilance, and maintained a thorough preparedness posture, in close cooperation with the United States”added the staff. The Presidential National Security Office held a meeting about the shootings and said it “watched closely” the situation in case of new shots from Pyongyang.

North Korea has carried out a series of weapons tests this year, including firing an intercontinental ballistic missile for the first time since 2017. Seoul and Washington believe Kim Jong Un’s regime could soon conduct a seventh nuclear test, which would lead to a response “fast and energetic”warned US Assistant Secretary of State Wendy Sherman.

The United States announced on May 27 new financial sanctions following the latest North Korean missile launches. These measures notably target two Russian banks accused of supporting North Korea’s weapons of mass destruction program.
