(Los Angeles) The Marvel Movie Guardians of the Galaxy – Volume 3 remains at the top of the North American box office, grossing more than $60.5 million for its second weekend in theaters, according to the specialist firm Exhibitor Relations.
The third part of the saga, which features the team of intergalactic mercenaries embodied by actors Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, David Bautista, Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel, this time plunges viewers into a race against time to save the Rocket raccoon.
The animated movie Super Mario Bros, the movieinspired by the iconic game of the same name, remains in second place, with $13 million in revenue for the weekend, accumulating more than $1.2 billion in profits worldwide since its release, it six weeks ago.
In third place in the ranking, there is a newcomer this week: the feature film Book club: the next chapterin which celebrities Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen and Mary Steenburgen play retired friends on a getaway to Italy with their book club.
The romantic film had a “timid start” according to analyst David Gross, but still collected $6.5 million.
The horror movie Evil Dead Rise loses a place and finds itself in fourth position in the ranking, with 3.7 million in profit.
In fifth place, the dramatic comedy Are you there God? It’s me, Margaretraised $2.5 million.
The film, inspired by a classic of Judy Blume’s children’s literature, features Abby Ryder Fortson as a teenager immersed in the torments of her age.
