Monday, June 6, the Normans commemorate the 78e D-Day anniversary. For the occasion, American veterans were honored.

At Omaha Beach, in Calvados, we commemorate the 78e anniversary of the Normandy landings, Monday June 6. Charles Norman Shay, American veteran, was 19 years old when he set foot on this ground. At 97, he is now the guardian of memory, that of his companions during the D-Day operation. “I am still very sad when I think back to my comrades on this beach 78 years ago. For many of them their souls stayed here and still walk on this beach“, he explains.

During this ceremony, sage burns in the rising sun, for the souls of Native Americans who died during the landing. A few hundred meters further, a procession of Jeep criss-crosses the beach. On board are American veterans. “I am so grateful that the French continue to keep memory alive in such a beautiful waysays one of them.
