Normalization of relations | ‘Progress’ made during meeting between leaders of Serbia and Kosovo

(Brussels) “Progress” on the way to normalizing relations between Belgrade and Pristina was recorded on Monday during a meeting in Brussels between the leaders of Serbia and Kosovo, but a new meeting will be necessary in March, announced the head of European diplomacy Josep Borrell.


“Progress has been made today, but there is still work to be done to ensure that what has been agreed will be implemented,” he explained after a meeting with the president. Serbian Aleksandar Vucic and Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti to discuss a plan proposed by the EU.

The two leaders accepted the principle of the implementation of the peace plan proposed by the Brussels EU, but “new negotiations are still necessary on the modalities of this implementation”, he specified.

“It is important to come to an agreement. It is even more important to implement what has been agreed and that is what still needs to be finalized,” he stressed.

A new “high-level” meeting will be organized “during the month of March and the EU envoy will go to Belgrade and Pristina in the meantime”, he announced.

“Both leaders have pledged not to allow unilateral actions that could derail the process,” insisted Josep Borrell.

“The meeting was difficult, as expected. There is no capitulation, ”assured the Serbian president on his Instagram account in the caption of a photo of the meeting with Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Josep Borrell.
