The National Hockey League (NHL) cannot “currently” respond to the Quebec government’s interest in the return of the Nordiques, Finance Minister Éric Girard said Thursday.
After a meeting with NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, Mr. Girard gave a brief update on social media.
“The NHL greatly appreciated our approach and indicated that it is not currently in a position to respond positively to our interest,” wrote the minister. We agreed to stay in touch and keep the communication channels open. “
Mr. Girard met virtually with Mr. Bettman and his deputy, Bill Daly.
“A cordial meeting with Messrs. Bettman and Daly,” said Mr. Girard. We expressed our interest in an NHL franchise in Quebec and demonstrated that it would be an important asset for the league. “
