Non-teaching staff | More than 4,400 positions still vacant

There are still 3,722 support positions (educators and technicians) and 705 professional positions (specialist teachers, speech therapists, psychologists, etc.) to be filled in Quebec schools, according to the most recent update of the Education Dashboard.

If we add the figures for teaching positions from last week, this brings the total number of positions to be filled in the Quebec education system to 8,285, a few hours before the start of the school year.

Among school educators, 2,547 positions remain vacant at the end of August, out of a total of 21,020. This figure is higher than last year – when there were 2,514 vacant positions at the same date – but represents a smaller proportion of unfilled positions than in 2023.

Among their colleagues, special education technicians, there were 1,175 positions left to fill out of a total of 16,515 positions, or 7.1% of these positions – compared to 5.6% a year ago.

Among professionals, the vacant positions are as follows:

  • Career counselors: 82 (out of 897)
  • Orthopedagogues: 73 (out of 862)
  • Speech therapists: 190 (out of 1408)
