The 95e The Academy Awards will take place on March 12, 2023 at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood in Los Angeles. It rewards films released in 2022. Nearly 3,000 guests are expected in this mythical room.

How to see this ceremony?

You can follow this ceremony on the night of Sunday March 12 to Monday March 13, 2023, live on Canal +. The festivities will begin around 11:30 p.m. in France, with the pre-ceremony and the arrival of international celebrities on the red carpet. The ceremony will begin around 2 a.m. and may end around 6 a.m. So remember to set your alarm clock!

Who will present the 2023 Oscars?

This edition will be hosted by comedian and television host Jimmy Kimmel. Accustomed to the ceremony which he has already presented in 2017 and 2018, the host of the talk show Jimmy Kimmel live! will do everything possible to prevent an incident from happening again. As a reminder, the last ceremony was unfortunately marked by the slap given by Will Smith to comedian Chris Rock, having made a joke about the alopecia suffered by the actor’s wife.

Which artists will perform on stage?

Each year, before presenting the prize for the best original song, artists come to perform on the stage of the Dolby Theatre. Named for the title Lift Me Upfeatured in the film’s soundtrack Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Rihanna and her pretty baby bump will ignite the scene. Also invited are David Byrne and Son Lux for the music This is a Life from the movie Everything All at Once. Without forgetting Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairavaprevious, the two interpreters of Naatu Naatu from indian film RRRwhich will create a great atmosphere!

Who are the big favorites of this edition?

This year, the comedy Everything Everywhere All At Once by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert has been nominated 11 times, notably for the Oscar for Best Film and for the Oscar for Best Director.

What about the French?

Each year, many French productions are candidates for the Oscars for the category of best international film. However, only one of them is chosen to defend the tricolor flag. To decide on the film presented for the Oscars, a commission made up of seven professional members of the cinema studies the applications.

This year, 33 films were submitted. Only 5 films have been shortlisted, including Full time by Eric Gravel and See Paris again by Alice Winocourt.

And among these 5 films, one caused a sensation: Alice Diop’s film entitled Saint Omer. Already awarded at the Venice Film Festival and the Césars, this film tells the true story of Laurence Coly (played by Guslagie Malanda), a Senegalese immigrant accused of having killed her baby.

Moreover, this film was not selected by the Academy of Cinema Arts and Sciences to compete for the title of Best International Film. To represent the French at the Oscars, only one candidate is present this year: Darius Khlondji, director of photography for the film. bardo by Alejandro González Iñárritu.

Did you know ? The statuette for best international film has not been won by a French production since 1993. The winning film being Indochina by Régis Wargnier.
