To dissuade users from pushing too much on their engine, some municipalities will soon be able to test anti-noise radars, which can issue fines up to 135 euros in the event of an offense.

A new radar-camera equipped with dozens of microphones. This is a big engine enthusiast’s worst nightmare. In a few months, it will make it possible to ticket drivers who are too noisy. “The objective is to isolate the noise of the passage of the vehicle, to capture its sound level as well as its plate for a possible sanction”, explains Fabien Lepercque, project manager of the company MicrodB. The amount of the fine will be 135 euros. They will also be tested in the capital, in Toulouse (Haute-Garonne) or Nice (Alpes-Maritimes).

A few kilometers from Paris, in the Chevreuse Valley, a departmental road turns every sunny weekend into a circuit on which several hundred motorcyclists accelerate in tight bends. Hell for residents: “You have this noise all the time every weekend, it is impossible to have a conversation outside”. For this test phase, the maximum sound level was set at 90 decibels, the alert threshold before the noise becomes dangerous for health. In particular, those who have tampered with their engine will be punished.
