The process of accession to sovereignty proposed by Québec Solidaire is too complicated and doomed to failure, believes Paul St-Pierre Plamondon, who notably advocates a simpler referendum question.
“The QS program is designed so that independence does not happen,” said the PQ leader on Saturday morning.
Solidarity proposes to create once elected a “constituent assembly” which would have the responsibility of drafting a new constitution on which the population would then have to decide during a referendum.
“What are the chances that it gives a 50% yes? Nulls, ”launched the PQ leader. “Accession to the country must be on the basis of a simple question, on the essentials. »
Paul St-Pierre-Plamondon reacted to Québec solidaire’s commitment to invest half a billion dollars over four years in the work of the constituent assembly. This commitment is included in the party’s financial framework unveiled on Friday.
A women’s ministry
The PQ leader unveiled a strategy on the status of women tinged with concern on Saturday morning. “We may have taken things for granted in our society. We realize that when we have gains, but we don’t take care of it, it can go down quite quickly. »
Concerned in particular by the phenomenon of feminicides, Paul St-Pierre Plamondon wants the government to do more in terms of prevention. To do so, he advocates the creation of a Ministry for the Status of Women in place of the current Secretariat of the same name. “As long as it remains a secretariat, there is less power, less budget, less influence”.
His plan also provides for the establishment of a ten-day leave for victims of domestic violence and the implementation of all the recommendations of the report Rebuilding Trust by the Committee of Experts on Support for Victims.
Since the beginning of the year, eight women have been killed by their spouse or ex-spouse in Quebec.
