The shock kept all its promises. Bayern Munich and Real Madrid went back to back (2-2) in the first semi-final first leg of the Champions League, Tuesday April 30, at the Allianz Arena. In a meeting with twists and turns and of a very high level, the two teams, which each had their highlights, did not manage to decide between themselves.

Even dominated, even in a delicate situation, Real Madrid, looking unsinkable, managed to keep all its chances of qualifying by grabbing a draw in the last minutes, like against Manchester City in the previous round. Carlo Ancelotti’s men, who were heading towards their first defeat of the season on the European scene, were brought back up to speed by a penalty from the inevitable Vinicius, after a foul on Rodrygo (82nd).

Vinicius wears Real

A goal rewarded another match fought to the end by the Spaniards, who did not give up, faithful to their habit. “I think it’s part of the DNA of our team, we know that we have to give everything from start to finish, even when we are in a complicated situation”admitted at the microphone of Canal+ Aurélien Tchouaméni, who has still not experienced defeat when he started a match with Real Madrid this season.

The Bavarians will be able to regret this penalty conceded when they had taken control of a match that they statistically dominated (54% possession, 14 shots to 9). Trailing by the score, they managed to completely turn the situation around in less than five minutes of play, thanks to a sudden strike from Leroy Sané (53rd) and a penalty converted by Harry Kane (57th), to bring their statistical total to 43 goals in 43 games this season.

Bayern’s regrets

But they also wasted opportunities, notably in a fiery start to the match, with five strikes in the first twelve minutes of play, and after which they were punished by Vinicius’ opener. They also sometimes trembled defensively, like the difficult evening of Kim Minjae, guilty of the two goals conceded, and were several times saved by Manuel Neuer active in his goals (51st, 79th).

With this draw, everything remains open for the return match next week in the Spanish capital. Bayern Munich, who have not won against Real on the European scene since 2012, will have to put out a high-level performance to hope to become only the second team to beat Madrid this season, and play their first League final. champions since 2020.
