Tensions remain between Emmanuel Macron and Boris Johnson, British Prime Minister, over fishing licenses. A tête-à-tête between the two leaders did not resolve the situation.

The fisheries file is still on the agenda between France and the United Kingdom. At the G20, in Rome (Italy), Emmanuel Macron and Boris Johnson exchanged face-to-face, Sunday, October 31. But while the Élysée advocates de-escalation, the British position has not changed. If no solution is found, from Tuesday November 2, France could prevent British fishermen from unloading their fish in French ports and strengthen customs controls.

“Now the ball is in their court. If the British do not make any move, obviously the measures planned from November 2 will have to be put in place.”, detailed the French president. On the side of the fishermen, the disappointment is intense. The latter have been in expectation and uncertainty for very long months, while their turnover is decreasing.
