No urgency for the appointment of the CEO of the SQ, say the PCQ of Eric Duhaime and Claire Samson

The Conservative Party of Quebec does not intend to help the government proceed with the appointment of the next director general of the Sûreté du Québec before the holiday adjournment.

Conservative leader Éric Duhaime said there is no urgency because an interim director general, Johanne Beausoleil, is in post.

Conservative MP Claire Samson has indicated that she is in no rush to submit her report on the government’s candidacy, which has been submitted to opposition parties.

Ms. Samson is being consulted as part of a new appointment process which provides for the candidacy to be voted on by deputies in the National Assembly.

Mr. Duhaime said it would be against the Police Act to go ahead with the vote without having the Conservatives’ report.

More details will follow.
