No to bars opening 24 hours a day

Many congratulations to Mr. Nadeau, who clearly identified the reason for our collective misfortune this morning, “unbridled capitalism”.

Indeed, the vultures of free trade and a mercantile society without restrictions and constraints on trade are not satisfied with influencing our governments, they are now plotting to become a world government dedicated to serving their interests.

And during this slump, the City of Montreal has given in to pressure from the owners of bars, discotheques and nightclubs who want to open their din of amplified music 24 hours a day, to the detriment of a normal night’s sleep for Montrealers. . They call this deafening noise “a dynamic and prosperous city”!

Studies show that extending alcohol outlet opening hours by one hour is associated with a 34% increase in violent crime rates and additional alcohol-related injuries.

Noise pollution also negatively impacts health and causes stress, anxiety, depression, high blood pressure, heart disease and hearing problems.

According to the World Health Organization, exposure to noise levels above 60 decibels, typical in such places, poses a “danger of hearing loss.” At 90 decibels, ear damage is a certainty after two hours of exposure.

A dynamic city is distinguished by the safety of its citizens, its cleanliness, its quality public services, adequate housing for its homeless, efficient public transportation and the comfort of its citizens, and not by the encouragement of alcoholism, debauchery and noise all night long which prevents sleep.

If we want to encourage families to come and live in Montreal, we must offer them peace and quiet, otherwise they will move to the suburbs.

Our elected officials are supposed to protect us against the mercantile excesses of traders who don’t care about our health.

The trend is to restrict opening hours rather than extend them.
