no, the Nupes did not modify its text to ensure the support of the RN

We were able to consult several annotated working versions of this motion of censure yesterday, without ever finding the words “immigration” or “migrants”, at any time, in any version. The text has therefore not been modified or rewritten to flirt with the RN, contrary to rumors which have been circulating for three days and above all contrary to what several socialists at war with Nupes, and members of the government, claim.

A debate did take place on the strategy to adopt, between the presidents of the left groups, but without a written record. Some, at that time, pleaded for the text to be less consensual, to give it a foil effect and make it impossible to support the RN. “We fought to go as far as possible”affirms a socialist, who regrets not having been enough “vigilant” to avoid the political trap set by Marine Le Pen.

The episode crystallizes the tensions around the alliance, already weakened by the Quatennens and Bayou affairs. It also highlights two visions: that of La France insoumise by Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who retains only the 50 votes missing to overthrow the government, and is not offended that the RN voted for this motion of censure; and that of certain ecologists and a large part of the socialists, embarrassed at the corners: “The rebellious play the crisis of the regime, we do not play the politics of the worst”says one of them.

For the sequel, “we are not going to make a fool of ourselves with a circus every time”, hopes an elected socialist while the use of 49.3 will multiply in the coming weeks. But the game at the Nupes should still harden, in the context of the Congress of the Greens, the Communists but especially the PS: “The first who breaks with the alliance will be very weakened”an LFI executive told us a few days ago, almost as a warning.

But the macronists persist, in the wake of Emmanuel Macron’s anger on Wednesday evening, denouncing the cynicism of the Nupes. “This always allows us to question them”assumes a macronist.

In the background: the idea, defended at all levels of Macronie, that there is “a political bow” between extreme right and extreme left. And that it is this alliance of circumstance which could – sooner or later – lead them to power.
