Drugged by her Machiavellian son, will the elegant Victoria Dumont (Nathalie Coupal) end up in the psychiatric hospital, completely stampeded, disoriented and dicked down in a white camisole?
Will the heartthrob concierge Olivier (Olivier Gervais-Courchesne) choose the fugitive director Sarah (Marie-Evelyne Lessard) or the sparkling queen of marketing Karine (Catherine Chabot)?
And will our valiant Emerick (Xavier Rivard-Désy) finally buy his cursed Japanese knives?
Alas, we will never know. TVA broadcast Thursday evening the 24e and final episode of his soap opera Hotel, which will not reopen in the fall. It’s over, kapout, my friends, ameches, amigos and friends.
The abrupt and open finale ofHotel abandoned its followers (average of 811,000 this winter, that’s a lot) on one leg and a bunch of unresolved intrigues. It’s always annoying when the carpet slips under the feet of a series in which we have invested dozens of hours.
With his air vintage of afternoon soap opera, Hotel was designed and built to accommodate customers for multiple seasons. TVA however disconnected it in November, when the filming of the first 24 episodes was completed. The authors were therefore unable to rewrite a satisfactory conclusion for their addicts.
Many of you decried this brutal, but irreversible decision by TVA: “What is it about them to cancel this series full of twists and turns that make us laugh, love and hate? It was a pearl of lightness and happiness”, writes me a fan ofHotelJosee L.
It’s true that in this cloud of ultra-violent broadcasts, Hotel deployed without requiring traumatic warning. No one died there in a sweat lodge – as in STAT And Indefensible — or decapitated in a warehouse with walls covered in plastic wrap.
Hotelit was a soap light and assumed with characters who envy, sink and plan the downfall of their enemies while drinking expensive alcohol. The main character of the soap opera, the deceitful Guillaume Dumont (Emmanuel Schwartz), could have appeared in dynasty/dallas with his very retro tactics to regain control of his family’s “luxurious” boutique hotel.
The villainous Guillaume even tried, with the help of the perfidious Simon-Luc (Frédéric Boudreault), to have his rich mother declared unfit, in addition to poisoning her without her knowledge.
The online petition to save Hotel of the guillotine now exceeds 10,000 signatures. Unfortunately, the complaints did not resonate with TVA.
“This petition warms the hearts of my team and me. The series worked well and that proves to us that we were not mistaken. We were arrested for financial reasons. At this point, nothing can be done. Once the decision is made, it is difficult to reverse it, “says the producer ofHotelSophie Deschênes, from Sovimage.
The immense decor of the soap opera was therefore dismantled and the texts of the six episodes of the second season sent for recycling. TVA did not respond to my request for an interview about the disappearance ofHotel.
Stories of trucker heart
The title of this reality show from the Unis TV channel is brilliant. While screwing us the classic Julien Clerc in the coco, it effectively summarizes the content of the ten episodes to come: three truckers and a single trucker are looking for a soul mate, between two trips on the highways of Canada.
Think of Love is in the meadow, but in 18-wheel format, with banjo and harmonica in the background. It starts Thursday at 9 p.m. on Unis TV.
Of the four participants, you will recognize Dominique, 50, from Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. He participated in The voice in Marjo’s team this winter. He’s the handsome man in the quartet.
Originally from Saint-Damase, Jonathan, 28, combines farming and trucking, in addition to playing ball hockey and heating the barbecue for his friends. Coraly, 21, of Lac-Mégantic, has been riding her monster for nearly four years. She’s not looking for an independent guy, oh no, but a clean man who likes to cowboy on the couch.
Junior, 42, from Sainte-Sophie, drives the same car as Sylvester Stallone in the film arm wrestling and he loves country dancing. In short, the profiles of the candidates of trucker heart resemble those of Love is in the meadow.
In the animation, comedian PA Méthot is doing well. He puts competitors at ease and asks relevant questions about this rather unknown work.
On the other hand, the world of trucking arrives with a language full of words and expressions in English, which will irritate the ears of purists. A flat bed, bending the sling, pinning the trailer, choke or tinker his truck, the Office québécois de la langue française will not recover.
I found the episodes of trucker heart too long. It’s old and it talks for few conclusive results. In a 30-minute format, it would have been more effective and captivating.
That said, what’s 30 minutes too long when you’re looking for the person to go a long way on the highway of the heart, huh?
