No “sincere remorse”: the gunsmith from the film “Rust” faces 18 months in prison

The gunsmith from the film RustHannah Gutierrez, showed no “sincere remorse” and failed to take responsibility for the gun incident that left the cinematographer dead, prosecutors say.

Mme Gutierrez, 26, was in charge of firearms on the set of the film that made headlines in October 2021, when Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin discharged a gun at point-blank range at Halyna Hutchins, the cinematographer.

The Santa Fe County jury deliberated for less than three hours on March 6 before convicting M.me Gutierrez guilty of manslaughter. She has been in custody since the verdict and faces up to 18 months in prison.

His lawyers made a request for parole earlier this week, ABC News reported. This release would require the court to place her on probation without entering a judgment of guilt.

In a response filed Friday, state prosecutors said they opposed parole because of Gutierrez’s “complete and utter refusal to accept responsibility for his actions.”

They argued that her calls since her incarceration demonstrated that she “continues to deny responsibility and blame others,” including the paramedics who tried to save Ms.me Hutchins.

Alec Baldwin was also charged with manslaughter in the death of Halyna Hutchins. His trial will begin in July.
