The weather is nice for Quebec at the start of summer. The thermometer should remain normal, and even a little below, until mid-July.

Lovers of hot weather can however be reassured, the mercury will rise again later.

Alternating sun and rain are expected this week in Quebec, with temperatures below or within normal, ie 26 degrees Celsius in Montreal and 24 degrees Celsius in Quebec, details Frédérick Boulay, meteorologist at Environment Canada.

Sunday will be a sunny day for southern Quebec. A few showers in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, then in central Quebec, Bas-Saint-Laurent and Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean, are to be expected.

The clouds will return Monday in the south of the province. In the evening, a heavy rain will begin and will continue until Tuesday. Between 15 and 25 millimeters of rain are expected.

The sun returns to all of Quebec on Wednesday and Thursday, while a depression could approach the province during the day on Friday.

In general, temperatures will remain at or below seasonal norms until July 15.

The mercury should then rise to be at or above seasonal normals.

After a first heat wave in May, the summer has been fairly mild so far, said Mr. Boulay. Since the beginning of summer (June 21), only one heat warning was issued for Montreal last Sunday. That day, the temperature reached 30 degrees Celsius, and 40 counting the Humidex factor.

Severe thunderstorms Saturday in Gaspésie, Friday in the Laurentians

A violent storm watch is underway Saturday afternoon for the Gaspésie region, said Mr. Boulay. “The strongest storm of them is heading towards Pointe-à-la-Croix, says Environment Canada on Twitter. Gusts of more than 90 km/h, hail and even an isolated tornado are possible. »

Severe thunderstorms also shook the Hautes-Laurentides region late Friday afternoon. Trees and electric poles were uprooted by gusts and led to the closure of Route 117 in the Rivière Rouge, Nominingue and Labelle sector. 5,000 Hydro-Quebec customers were deprived of electricity.
