In fifteen French departments, health workers who refused compulsory vaccination against Covid-19 are deprived of RSA. Departmental communities refuse to provide them with this financial assistance.

In Agen (Lot-et-Garonne), two caregivers who refused to be vaccinated against Covid-19 no longer receive any income and do not benefit from any social assistance. Being able to claim the RSA (Active Solidarity Income), they cannot touch it because their department, like 14 others in France, refuses to pay this social assistance to health workers who have refused vaccination against Covid-19. “If it is not possible to work, if it is not possible to receive help, we find ourselves in the gutter, in a state of indigence “, explains Christiane Gimet.

The decision shocks unemployed health workers, but it starts from an economic intention at the departmental level. “Today, the RSA is based on the income of the last three months. This means that tomorrow we may find ourselves paying the RSA from people who are executives and who have very comfortable incomes, who have simply chosen not to not be vaccinated “, explains Jean-Luc Gleyze, president of the Gironde departmental council. The budget is complicated to predict because it is impossible to know how many employees have been suspended due to the non-respected vaccination obligation. The state should however help the departments with this aid.
