No picketing on school grounds in Montreal, orders the Superior Court

The Superior Court orders teachers from the Alliance of Teachers of Montreal, affiliated with the Autonomous Federation of Education (FAE), to stop picketing on the grounds of the establishments of the Center de services scolaire de Montréal (CSSDM). ) and to clear access to building entrances and parking lots, so that workers can continue renovating schools during the strike.

The court also prohibits them from intimidating construction workers, “calling them names,” photographing or filming them, as well as approaching within one meter of them.

The CSSDM obtained this injunction from the Superior Court following “a number of unlawful incidents” that occurred during the teachers’ strike, such as an “intimidating intrusion into the construction site area of a school requiring police intervention.” He argued that the union and its members are exercising “their rights to strike unlawfully, causing serious harm”. According to the school service center, “urgent ventilation work” must be carried out this week in schools.

The judgment states that “at this stage” the Alliance has not disputed the evidence.

Further details will follow.
