Not vaccinated against COVID-19, Djokovic confirmed on his Twitter account on Wednesday evening that he had not obtained authorization to enter the United States. It is therefore excluded from the tournaments that take place there.

“Even though I was automatically entered into the BNP Paribas Open and Miami Open draw, I knew it was unlikely that I would be able to travel,” he wrote. The Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) has confirmed that the regulations will not change. So I will not be able to play in the United States. Good luck to those playing in these big tournaments. »

Indeed, the current rule is that foreign visitors must be fully vaccinated to enter the United States. The Serb has not received any doses of the vaccine.

This means that since the start of 2022, Djokovic has only taken part in one tournament, that of Dubai, where he was defeated in the quarter-finals by the Czech Jiri Vesely.

At the beginning of January, the 34-year-old athlete showed up in Melbourne to take part in the Australian Open. He was, however, expelled from the country after a legal battle that stretched over several days. In his absence, Rafael Nadal got his hands on a 21and Grand Slam trophy, a men’s record. The Spaniard thus overtook Roger Federer and Djokovic, who both have 20.
