Manon Massé will not run for a new mandate as co-spokesperson for Québec solidaire (QS) next fall, but she nevertheless intends to remain the MP for Sainte-Marie–Saint-Jacques, in Montreal.
According to our information, the elected official, who has been the party’s female spokesperson since 2017, wants to focus more on the work in her constituency, which she has represented since 2014. The fact of occupying these two functions was starting to be heavy for the 59-year-old politician. She also wants to leave room for the next generation.
Ms. Massé is to make the official announcement on Tuesday morning in Montreal. The information first relayed by Radio-Canada was confirmed by The duty. She will therefore step down at the next QS congress, which will take place from November 24 to 26, 2023.
To know who could replace her, three women are currently solidarity members, Alejandra Zaga Mendez in Verdun, Christine Labrie in Sherbrooke and Ruba Ghazal in Mercier. The new spokesperson could also be a person who is not elected to the National Assembly.
In 2021, Manon Massé had ceded her place as parliamentary leader to the other co-spokesperson for QS, Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois. “To tell you the truth, I have ants in my legs, but, at the moment, I am in a role that wears me out, a role that sometimes turns me off,” she explained at the time of the announcement. .
