It’s a new habit rooted in everyday gestures for two years, which we can get rid of since Monday, May 16: no longer necessarily wear a mask in public transport. Still need to get over it.

In Besançon (Doubs), in the tram, Monday May 16, there was a funny atmosphere, as if the passengers without masks were wondering if they were making the right choice. “This morning I hesitated, and as I left a little quickly, I did not take the mask”, said a passenger. It has been two years since the mask was compulsory in transport. In Bordeaux (Gironde) for example, some were waiting for this release and others were not. “It was quite constraining, and surprising not to wear it anywhere, except there”says a woman. “For the moment, I find it a little too early”says a passenger.

On the platforms of the Parisian metro at rush hour, it is the freedom regained to sulk or smile, without hiding and without real apprehension. The danger is still present for those who prefer to keep the mask. “We’re really all on top of each other, and it seems obvious to me that it’s a little dangerous. We all have elderly parents, fragile parents. I think it’s a small gesture that we should all keep “, says a passenger. Although it is no longer compulsory, wearing a mask is still recommended, especially for the most fragile passengers.
