Saturday, July 9, a new scientific report from the National Health Security Agency would establish the link between the presence of nitrites in ham and cold cuts and the development of colon cancer.

How to choose your charcuterie? For the taste, of course, but for many, also looking at the health effects. “For me, what is important is the quality, that there are not too many coloring products that are toxic to the body”, explains a client, Saturday, July 9. Additives based on nitrites and nitrates are used for the manufacture of charcuterie. Are they responsible for cancer? This is the question posed to the Food Safety Agency.

According to MP Richard Ramos (Together!), the answer is clear. “Yes, there is a link between colorectal cancer and nitrites in charcuterie. This report will make it clear”, he warns. Charcuterie is already classified as carcinogenic to humans by the WHO (World Health Organization). If experts point the responsibility of nitrites, the question of their ban could arise. Their conclusions are expected on Tuesday 12 July.
