Nini Villegas, from “the city of eternal spring”

Both an independent painter and host at Radio Vassivière, Nini Villegas has many talents. She is one of those people who imposes without even opening her mouth. A strong, inhabited presence. And then, she speaks, and there, the magic continues: passionate and enthralling, bubbling with life, bulimic of knowledge.

A temperament that she undoubtedly owes to her Colombian roots, planted in the city of Medellin, the second most populous city in Colombia. The city “eternal spring but also rage“, she tells us. 2,533,424 inhabitants cross paths there daily and more than 4,055,296 in its metropolitan area, of which only 5% live in rural areas.

She begins by telling us about her city, her life as a child and then as a young adult in this city where her love for art and painting was born. How to do otherwise, it is the city of Fernando Botero. A detour is required in Plaza Botero, in the heart of the historic center which is a veritable open-air art gallery: twenty-three sculptures of considerable size and with the artist’s recognizable style are on display.

Going from Medellin to the plateau des millevaches: what impressions?

When Nini Villegas arrived in France in 2013, it was the first time that she left her country. First time she has walked on European soil. She could have been destabilized to leave her metropolis inhabited by more than a million inhabitants. But no, she immediately likes the limousin: ” Limoges, a very quiet, super peaceful city where I felt very good, safe “. She even goes further when she tells us, I ” nourished by my territory, the Limousin “.

However, she does not speak a word of French when she arrives. She then spends her days at the French-language multimedia library (Bfm) in Limoges and learns, on her own, until she has mastered the language of Molière. Quickly, she settles down with her husband and her granddaughter on the plateau des millevaches and the Limousin charm continues to operate.

In my hamlet, I have the hollow and haute vienne sign: I am a border “

At once, ” I fell in love with this beautiful territory […] a land of welcome “. Contemplative, she “_adored discovering the seasons, of this” water rich land“. The painter, the communicator, the thirsty for knowledge has visibly found its ground of anchorage.

Through his gaze, we rediscover our region …
