Israel step up their offensive. Israeli forces announced on Saturday August 6 the arrest of nineteen members of Islamic Jihad, the day after raids that left fifteen dead, including a jihadist leader. A total of 20 people were arrested by Shin Bet soldiers and security service agents during operations on Saturday morning, “19 of whom are members associated with the Palestinian terrorist organization Islamic Jihad”the Israeli army said in a statement.

Israeli forces have also launched new strikes against Islamic Jihad in Gaza. Israel presented these raids as a “preemptive attack” against Islamic Jihad, a few days after the arrest of a leader of the organization in the occupied West Bank who had raised fears of reprisal actions.

Islamic Jihad, which retaliated with rocket attacks on the Jewish state, is uAn Islamist group supported by Iran and very present in Gaza and the West Bank, a Palestinian territory occupied by Israel since 1967.
