nine people died in Israeli raids on two Lebanese villages

The Lebanese Ministry of Health announced on Saturday October 12 that nine people had been killed in Israeli raids targeting two villages north and south of Beirut, outside Hezbollah strongholds. A “Israeli enemy strike on Maaysra”a predominantly Christian Shiite village north of Beirut, killed “five people and injured 14 others”said the ministry in a press release. A fifth peacekeeper injured in southern Lebanon. A new peacekeeper was injured in southern Lebanon, the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) announced on Saturday, specifying that the latter was hit by a bullet, including “the origin has not yet been determined”. Friday evening, “a peacekeeper was hit by fire while a military action took place not far from the UNIFIL HQ in Ras al-Naqoura”according to a press release. On Thursday and Friday, UNIFIL claimed that four of its members had been injured, including at least two due to an attack by Israeli troops. Emmanuel Macron had warned that France “will not tolerate” new shots, judged “completely unacceptable”.

An Iranian official visiting Beirut. The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf, denounced the “crimes” of Israel during a visit to the site of a deadly Israeli strike which targeted central Beirut on Thursday. “International organizations and the UN Security Council have the capacity [d’arrêter Israël] but unfortunately they remain silent”the Iranian official regretted.

Hezbollah fire on Haifa. Hezbollah claimed to have fired “missiles” on an Israeli military base near Haifa in northern Israel. In a statement, the Islamist movement said it had bombed with “a salvo of missiles at a base south of Haifa, targeting an explosive materials factory.” The pro-Iranian group on Friday ordered Israelis to move away from military sites in residential areas in the north of the country.

Israeli army warns Lebanese. The army ordered residents of southern Lebanon to “do not return” home, emphasizing that his troops continued to confront Hezbollah fighters in this region. “For your own protection, do not return home until further notice. Do not head south, anyone heading south risks putting their life in danger.”warned an army spokesperson.
