Nine new deaths linked to COVID-19 and a drop in hospitalizations

The number of deaths and hospitalizations linked to COVID-19 are decreasing in Quebec.

According to data released by the Ministry of Health on Sunday, the number of patients in hospitals due to the coronavirus fell from 1,258 to 1,238, a drop of around 15% in the past seven days. There are 76 people in intensive care, 22 less than a week ago.

Nine new deaths were added to the death toll. We now deplore 14,085 deaths linked to COVID-19 since its appearance in Quebec.

The Ministry of Health also reports 910 new cases since the previous report. Authorities have identified 929,040 cases of infection since the start of the pandemic. However, the number of cases listed is not representative of the situation since access to screening centers is restricted to priority clienteles.

The seven-day average of new cases stands at 1,144, down more than 16% from last Sunday.

The number of active outbreaks has decreased over the past 24 hours, from 480 to 472.

A total of 11,343 analyzes were performed on Saturday. The positivity rate fell by 1.4 points to 8.7%.

The vaccination campaign is progressing at a snail’s pace. Only 9993 vaccine doses have been administered in the last 24 hours, including only 414 first doses and 6608 booster doses.

The percentage of people aged 5 and over who received a first dose is still around 91%. It is also reported that approximately 87% of the Quebec population received a second dose and that approximately 52% received a booster dose.
