The greatest caution is required in the south of France, where more than a month of rain is expected to fall in a few hours. Nine departments are placed on orange vigilance. Campsites have been evacuated in the southeast as a safety measure.

The snow plows are in action, however, the bad weather which has swept across the Haute-Loire since the afternoon of Saturday March 9 has trapped a number of motorists. “I couldn’t brake, it was slipping, I didn’t have snow tires and I ended up in the ditch”, says a man. Elsewhere, strong winds caused power outages. Nearly 3,000 homes no longer have power in Isère, Drôme and Ardèche. In the Gard, storm Monica raises fears of flooding. Placed on orange alert for rain and floods, the Var and the Alpes-Maritimes must be affected in turn.

Monitored flood zones

Bad weather feared in a region still traumatized by the Mediterranean episode of 2015. The authorities anticipate increased monitoring of flood zones. Emergency accommodation centers have been opened. More than a month of precipitation is expected to fall on the French Riviera.
