Nine soldiers died in the crash Wednesday night in the United States of two US military helicopters, a spokesman said Thursday.
The two Black Hawk helicopters of the 101e Airborne Division collided around 10 p.m. local time during a routine training mission in the state of Kentucky.
“Nine soldiers died in the crash,” confirmed Lt. Col. Anthony Hoefler.
The two aircraft, HH-60 Black Hawks each capable of carrying up to 11 people, crashed in Trigg County, northwest of Fort Campbell, where the 101e airborne division has its quarters.
“The command is currently focusing its attention on the soldiers and their families,” the army said in a statement.
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear travels Thursday morning to Fort Campbell “to support our troops and their families after last night’s tragic accident.”
A US Army training plane crashed in September 2021 in Texas, forcing its two pilots to eject.
