In theaters since Wednesday October 9, “Niki” by Céline Sallette looks back on the birth of a self-taught artist, Niki de Saint Phalle. To tell part of Niki’s story, 13 Heures finds actress Charlotte Le Bon in an artist’s studio in Montparnasse.

In addition to their physical resemblance, Charlotte Le Bon and Niki de Saint Phalle are both visual artists. The actress received our team in a workshop in Montparnasse where she likes to come and work. “I knew that certain gestures were familiar to me. When she mixes the pigment with oil, the way she holds a brush, when she uses her hands with the plaster”she explains. Charlotte Le Bon says she was touched by “her feeling of imposture which accompanied her at the beginning”.

The film particularly focuses on the traumas of Niki de Saint Phalle. “I find it a little unfair to say that art was the response to trauma. She used art as a tool to be able to heal herself perhaps, but I feel like it was already a part of her “underlines Charlotte Le Bon. To conclude the discussion, the actress brought her box of oil pastels with which she works.
