After five absences, Gad Elmaleh returns to the Dôme stage at the start of 2022 with his show Besides. A show in which the comedian spoke about his life, his American adventure, his relationship with his parents, his sons and his “prince’ex”. Laughter guaranteed for two hours… During its passage on TF1in an issue of seven to eight, the fifty-year-old returned to one of the rare failures of his long career. A landmark episode for the star.
“The idea was above all to put oneself in danger”he had concerning his desire to perform in the United States. “I want to be excited and I want to find out what it’s like for an audience that has never heard of me”. But he was confronted with a violent reality! “The first time I took my plane ticket and said to myself, ‘Let’s go, you’re going to New York’, I had been booked into a comedy club, the worst place in the program. because we don’t know you, we put you either when people pay the bill because everyone eats and drinks in these places or is first”.
Noah’s father continued his story by saying: “And I do for the first time, a flop … resounding. I tear two three laughs over 15 minutes. And translations of valves from French to English which do not work at all. It shook me. .. I remember that night, I went back to the hotel, I ordered some red wine, all alone, I watched the cars go by and I asked myself: ‘What the hell am I doing? ” If his meeting with the American public did not necessarily start in the best way, it ended well. “I went back the next day and the day after (…) And it took, that was an incredible feeling”. If Gad Elmaleh had difficulty filling the rooms, in particular “a room of 200 people in New Orleans”, he managed to perform in front of “13,000 people”.
