Winnipeg Jets have achieved a historic milestone in the NHL by winning 14 of their first 15 regular-season games, surpassing the previous record of 13 wins. After a loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs, they rebounded with six consecutive victories. Other notable games included the Nashville Predators defeating the Utah Hockey Club 4-0, the New Jersey Devils overcoming the New York Islanders 4-3 in overtime, and the Los Angeles Kings winning 5-2 against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Jets Make History with Unprecedented Wins
The Winnipeg Jets have made a remarkable statement in the NHL by winning 14 out of their first 15 regular-season games, a feat never accomplished before in the league’s history. This impressive run surpasses the previous record held by both the Jets and the Ottawa Senators, who managed to win 13 of their first 14 games back 17 years ago.
Following a 4-6 defeat against the Toronto Maple Leafs at the end of October, which halted their eight-game winning streak, the Jets quickly bounced back with another six victories. This achievement ties them with the Colorado Avalanche, who were the only team to have two separate six-game winning streaks within the first 15 games of a season, a record set 11 years ago.
Highlights from Other NHL Teams
The Jets set the tone for their latest victory against Dallas early on, leading 4-0 just over seven minutes into the second period. Nikolaj Ehlers, son of Visp coach Heinz Ehlers, capped off the scoring for the Jets with his ninth goal of the season during a power play, while Niederreiter remained off the scoresheet.
In other action, the Nashville Predators, captained by Roman Josi, broke a three-game losing streak with a 4-0 triumph over the Utah Hockey Club. Josi played a pivotal role, assisting on the first two power play goals scored by Filip Forsberg and Jonathan Marchessault.
Meanwhile, the New Jersey Devils, featuring Nico Hischier, Timo Meier, and Jonas Siegenthaler, edged out the New York Islanders 4-3 in a thrilling overtime match. The Devils faced a tough battle, initially trailing 1-3 late in the game. However, Dawson Mercer scored with a setup from Siegenthaler to reduce the deficit, and Stefan Noesen equalized just before the game ended. Jack Hughes then clinched the victory in overtime, marking the Devils’ third consecutive win.
The Los Angeles Kings, with Kevin Fiala, also celebrated a victory, defeating the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-2, which marked the latter’s fourth straight loss. On a less fortunate note, Pius Suter and the Vancouver Canucks fell to the Edmonton Oilers, suffering a 3-7 defeat. Although Suter scored his fifth goal of the season during a late power play, it was merely a consolation in the face of a heavy loss.
