Having just left M6 after 37 years at the helm, Nicolas de Tavernost joined the CMA CGM group of billionaire Rodolphe Saadé. He is appointed vice-president of his new holding company CMA Médias, the Marseille shipowner announced on Wednesday May 15.

Nicolas de Tavernost, aged 73, “will also chair the strategic committee and mobilize its experience to assist the group in its media activities, in the choice of investments and the conduct of operations”specifies CMA CGM in a press release.

CMA Media, “head holding of the media division” of the maritime transport giant, according to the press release, was created to anticipate the finalization of the acquisition of the Altice Media group (BFMTV, RMC…) announced in March, CMA CGM told AFP.

This structure must ultimately encompass WhyNot Media (La Tribune, La Provence...), the press division of the group headed by Jean-Christophe Tortora and of which Véronique Albertini-Saadé, wife of Rodolphe Saadé, is the non-executive president.

The surprise recruitment of the emblematic former boss of the M6 group once again illustrates the ambitions of Franco-Lebanese billionaire Rodolphe Saadé in the sector. For his part, Nicolas de Tavernost proves that he does not intend to retire.

Two days after his official departure from M6, where David Larramendy succeeded him at the end of April, he was also appointed vice-chairman of the board of directors of GL Events, a company specializing in events, where he was already an independent director.

Quoted in the press release, Rodolphe Saadé “rejoiced” of his arrival in his group, where “he will bring his skills to the media team to support our diversification in the sector.”
