West Side Story was born in 1957. 64 years later, the musical continues to inspire. Nicolas Bedos and his partner Pauline Desmonts, Joyce Jonathan and Jean-Marc Généreux have discovered a new adaptation on the big screen, during a very lively preview!
New West Side Story released in France on Wednesday, December 8, 2021. A handful of lucky spectators watched it before the general public, attending the preview on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at the Grand Rex, in the 2nd arrondissement. The absences of director Steven Spielberg and actors Ansel Elgort and Rachel Zegler did not discourage Nicolas Bedos and Joyce Jonathan who braved the cold to get to the screening. The first appeared on the photocall with his partner Pauline Desmonts, thanks to whom he found the joy of living after a double mourning. In May 2020, the director lost his father, Guy Bedos, then his godfather, Jean-Louis Labadie. The two men were 85 and 81 years old.
The former Miss France Vaimalama Chaves, Liane Foly, singer Bilal Hassani, Léa Salamé, Augustin Trapenard and many other guests attended. They all immersed themselves in the famous love story of Tony and Maria (played by Ansel Elgort and Rachel Zegler), a love that dawns against the backdrop of brawls between rival gangs in New York in 1957.
The dancers of the show Dance with the stars Adrien Caby, Joël Luzolo, Elsa Bois, Samuel Texier and Candice Pascal, former band member Maxime Dereymez and ex-judge Jean-Marc Généreux would not have missed this screening for the world! The latter two even replayed the dance steps of the legendary musical in front of the photographers.
