Nicolas Aubé-Kubel finds himself on waivers

Quebec forward Nicolas Aubé-Kubel, who is not having a great start to the season, saw his name go on waivers by the Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday.

The native of Alberta, who nevertheless spent the majority of his childhood in the Belle Province, collected no points in six games in 2022-2023. Mainly used in a support role, the energetic right winger did not convince the general staff in his first steps with the Leafs.

If he is not claimed by another National Hockey League team, Aubé-Kubel could have to report to the Toronto Marlies. It would then be his first stint in the American League since 2019-2020 for him.

The 26-year-old signed a one-year, $1 million contract during the offseason. The former Philadelphia Flyers draft pick had his best season last year winning the Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche. He had 22 points, including 11 goals, in 67 regular season games.
