After two consecutive defeats in the league against Clermont (1-0) and Lyon (2-0), Nice returned to winning ways against Angers (1-0) on Sunday February 20. Three deserved points after a match mastered by Christophe Galtier’s men who could have won more widely.

It was Justin Kluivert who rocked Danijel Petkovic’s net after a long opener from Melvin Bard and a missed outing from the Montenegrin keeper (1-0, 19′). Khephren Thuram and Andy Delort also deceived the vigilance of the Angevin defense but their two goals, scored from the head on a free kick were refused for offside positions. Kasper Dolberg, who was returning as a starter, missed a lot of chances, including a shot two meters from goal on a good delivery from Thuram after a quarter of an hour in the second half.

A victory on the smallest of the gaps which could have allowed the Angevins to equalize. Less dangerous, the players of Gérald Baticle still provided themselves with opportunities. Just before half-time, Souleyman Doumbia smashed Walter Benitez’s post on a poor clearance from the Nice defense. Sofiane Boufal also put the Nice goalkeeper to work with a long shot ten minutes from time.

Thanks to this victory, Nice consolidates its third place and puts pressure on Marseille. The Aiglons are one point behind the Olympians before their match against Clermont on Sunday evening (8:45 p.m.). Opposite, nothing is going well for Angers who remain on four consecutive defeats.
