Four people have died and four others are missing after landslides and river floods caused by heavy rains in Nicaragua, an official source said on Friday.
Two people were killed Friday by a mudslide in El Jilquero, in the municipality of Wiwili located in the department of Jinotega (North), according to a press release from the National System for the Prevention of Disasters (Sinapred).
Also in this department, four members of the same family were swept away by a landslide in Runflín de Bocay, adds the Sinapred without specifying on what date. Both parents are dead and the two children, aged eight months and two years, are missing.
According to local media, the landslide occurred on Wednesday morning.
Finally, in the locality of Pie del Cerro Gacho in the same department, the rains caused the collapse of two houses, the two owners of which are missing, according to Sinapred.
The organization estimates that around 100 houses have been affected by the rains so far, along with two suspension bridges and seven kilometers of drinking water pipes serving at least twelve communities in the north of the country.
