NHL Trophies | Who will win the honours?

After the big NHL files, our analysts dive into the heart of the matter: who will win the big trophies next season?

The Stanley Cup

Mathias Brunet:

Carolina Hurricanes

The Carolina Hurricanes will take advantage of the weakening of some powerhouses in the East to reach the Finals and win the Stanley Cup, due to their speed and depth at all positions.

Katherine Harvey-Pinard:

Colorado avalanche

No choice. After the Lightning, it will be the turn of the Avalanche to put on two triumphs in quick succession.

Richard Labbe:

Tampa Bay Lightning

Like the impression that the Lightning has not (yet) said its last word.

Guillaume Lefrancois:

Carolina Hurricanes

Their blue line was already a force and Brent Burns will be a good complement.

Simon-Olivier Lorange:

Calgary Flames

Matthew Tkachuk hasn’t really been replaced, but the Flames have strengthened in the center and in defense. If goaltender Jacob Markstrom holds up in the playoffs, the Cup is certainly within reach.

Alexander Pratt:

Carolina Hurricanes

The best defensive team in the NHL has its starting goaltender healthy, and adds Max Pacioretty and Brent Burns.

Connor McDavid

Connor McDavid

Connor McDavid is better and better surrounded in Edmonton and not only will he win a scoring championship, but the successes of the Oilers will also allow him to delight the Hart.

Katherine Harvey-Pinard:

Connor McDavid

Since I don’t need to explain this choice, I take this opportunity to remind you that McDavid is only 25 years old. Imagine his rack of trophies in 10 years.

Richard Labbe:

Connor McDavid

He already has two Harts on his resume, why not add a third?

Guillaume Lefrancois:

Connor McDavid

He will continue to add trophies to an already well-stocked cabinet.

Kirill Kaprizov

Kirill Kaprizov

He is the heart and soul of the Minnesota Wild offense. Kevin Fiala gone, the fate of the attack will be in his hands. And he doesn’t ask for more.

Alexander Pratt:

Connor McDavid

Simply because he is the best player.

Hold Makar

Hold Makar

Cale Makar won his first Norris Trophy aged just 23 last year and nothing will stop him from winning it for the second season in a row.

Katherine Harvey-Pinard:

Hold Makar

Makar is on another planet. It will be a two in two for him this season.

Richard Labbe:

Hold Makar

At only 23 years old, he has not finished improving.

Guillaume Lefrancois:

Hold Makar

Like Goineau and Bousquet, the names Makar and Norris are meant to be related.

Roman Josi

Roman Josi

The arrival of Ryan McDonagh in Nashville will free Josi from menial tasks and allow him to shine even more.

Juuse Saros

Juuse Saros

Despite his small stature by NHL standards, Juuse Saros (5’11”) will finally be recognized for his true worth after a great season with the Nashville Predators.

Igor Shesterkin

Igor Shesterkin

It will be difficult for him to have a more spectacular season than last year, but he will win his second Vézina trophy. I hesitated to go with Juuse Saros…

Andrei Vasilevskiy

Andrei Vasilevskiy

There will be a strong comeback of the Lightning and it will be the main reason.

Guillaume Lefrancois:

Igor Shesterkin

In the prime of life, behind defenders who are also arriving in their best years, the stars are aligned.

Ilya Sorokin

Ilya Sorokin

Igor Shesterkin will be hard to beat. However, Sorokin was one of the best goalkeepers in the league last year, and he should be better protected this season.

Alexander Pratt:

Igor Shesterkin

We talked a lot about his difficulties in the playoffs against the Penguins. And not enough of his brilliance in the season, as well as in the playoff games against the Hurricanes and the Lightning.

The Calder Trophy

Owen Power

Owen Power

Rather rare, two defenders have won the last three trophies, Moritz Seider and Cale Makar. There will be a third this year, Owen Power in Buffalo.

Matty Beniers

Matty Beniers

In his first 10 NHL games last season, Matty Beniers scored 9 points. No doubt he will quickly establish himself as a key player in Seattle. Owen Power himself said that Beniers should be the favorite for the Calder Trophy!

Richard Labbe:

Owen Power

This great defender will have every chance to shine with the Buffalo Sabres, who will use him on all occasions.

Guillaume Lefrancois:

Matty Beniers

The second pick in the 2021 draft will continue the momentum from the end of last season.

Simon-Olivier Lorange:

Matty Beniers

Hot boiling at the end of last season, he arrives with the ardor of his 19 years, but the confidence of a veteran. He will have every chance to have fun in Seattle.

Alexander Pratt:

Matty Beniers

A rookie at the center of the first line and the first unit in numerical superiority of his team, it is rare.

Leon Draisaitl

Leon Draisaitl

Leon Draisaitl scored 55 goals last year, 5 less than Auston Matthews, but the trophy will not escape him this year with an accomplice like Connor McDavid.

Katherine Harvey-Pinard:

Leon Draisaitl

Draisait? Matthews? Draisait? Matthews? Draisaitl. The 26-year-old German will reach the 60-goal plateau this season.

Richard Labbe:

Auston Matthews

Auston Matthews

The Leafs forward is coming off a 60-goal season, and it could be even more this time around.

Guillaume Lefrancois:

Auston Matthews

He won it last year even though he missed nine games…

Simon-Olivier Lorange:

Auston Matthews

He demonstrated last season that he is the best sniper on the circuit. If he stays healthy, he will be unbeatable.

Alexander Pratt:

Connor McDavid

See my answer for the Hart Trophy.
