Hours before the game against the Buffalo Sabers, New Jersey Devils head coach Lindy Ruff confirmed that the 19-year-old guard would be on his night roster.
Drafted with the fourth overall pick of the 2021 auction, Hughes initialed his first contract in the Bettman circuit last Saturday. His college career had come to an end two days earlier, when the Michigan Wolverines suffered elimination in the semi-finals of the Frozen Four tournament.
The younger brother of Jack and Quinn Hughes finished his NCAA season with 10 goals and 38 assists, for 48 points in 39 games.
The Devils are already guaranteed to be playoffs in 2023. After the duel against the Sabers, they will conclude their regular season by visiting the Capitals in Washington on Thursday night. Ruff has also confirmed that Hughes will also be part of his training for this duel.
