This is reported by journalist Elliotte Friedman and various sources. The details of the exchange are however still unknown.
The Calgary Flames, who reportedly just signed a seven-year deal with forward Nazem Kadri, needed to free up some space to stay below the salary cap. Monahan will enter the final year of his seven-year contract at $6.3 million per year this season.
The center spent his nine National League seasons with the Flames, who selected him in the first round, sixth overall, in 2013. After an 82-point season in 2018-19, he was slowed by wrist and hip injuries in recent years. His offensive output has dropped significantly. Last season, he recorded 8 goals and 15 assists for 23 points in 65 games.
Monahan missed the end of last season because he had to have surgery on his right hip. According to what the Flames reported in May, Monahan should be ready for training camp in September.
