NHL | Makar, Nylander and Crosby are the stars of the week

(New York) Colorado Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar, Toronto Maple Leafs right wing William Nylander and Pittsburgh Penguins center Sidney Crosby are the three stars of the week, the NHL announced Monday.

Makar led the league with seven assists and eight points in three games. He finished the week with back-to-back three-assist performances in 8-2 wins over the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday and 6-3 over the Dallas Stars on Saturday.

The 25-year-old was second among league guards heading into Monday’s games with 24 points. Only Quinn Hughes (28), of the Vancouver Canucks, was ahead of him.

Nylander scored two goals and added three assists in two games played in his native Sweden, where the Maple Leafs were perfect in the Overall Series.

The Leafs winger collected a goal and two assists in a 3-2 win against the Detroit Red Wings on Friday in Stockholm, and scored the goal in overtime in addition to adding an assist in a victory 4-3 against the Minnesota Wild on Sunday.

Nylander, 27, is in the midst of a 17-game point streak – a team record to start a season – and finished the week with 27 points. That’s one less than Canucks Hughes, Elias Pettersson and JT Miller, at the top of the circuit.

Crosby led the league with five goals. He also contributed to two goals in four games.

The highlight of his week is his 13e hat trick and its 38e career four-point performance Tuesday against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The Penguins captain has 562 career goals, including 12 this season.
