NHL: Jeff Petry is on the market, but the customers are not there

As various sources have reported, Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Jeff Petry could find himself in another place, since his team has seriously considered the possibility of a trade.

According to hockey expert Frank Seravalli, the former Montreal Canadiens is too old for the taste of the new president of hockey operations of the “Pens”, Kyle Dubas. The latter would have worked hard on Tuesday to conclude a transaction involving the one obtained on July 16, 2022. However, the opinion of the other National League teams with regard to the 35-year-old athlete would be similar and consequently, the interest would remain limited. The $6.25 million annual salary he’ll earn through 2024-25 would be a serious drag here.

Nevertheless, the same source reported that the San Jose Sharks could be good partners in a potential trade. Pittsburgh would like to get their hands on goalkeeper Kaapo Kahkonen.

Petry was unable to lead the Penguins to the playoffs this year; the club experienced their first elimination from the playoffs since 2005-2006. During the regular season, the guard had five goals and 26 assists for 31 points in 61 games, as an injury sidelined him for more than a month.
