The 32-year-old was among the spectators in a box at the FLA Live Arena and watched as the Panthers lost 4-3 to the New York Rangers.
In a video shared on social networks, Koepka can be seen showing off an orange cone and shouting at Ekblad that he has the same impact as the object on the icy surface.
After the game, the back of the Florida club was questioned about his relationship with the golfer who won four major titles.
“I do not know him. We are not friends and we have never been friends,” Ekbald told the media.
Koepka is a resident of Jupiter, Florida and regularly attends Panthers matchups. One can understand that he is frustrated if he identifies himself as a supporter of the club.
After winning the Presidents’ Trophy last year, the Panthers are having a disappointing 2022-23 season. With eight games remaining in their regular season, they sit three points behind the team that holds the final playoff spot in the National Hockey League Eastern Conference.
To return to Ekblad, the veteran is playing one of his worst career seasons. He had 12 goals and 19 assists for 33 points in 63 games, in addition to maintaining a -16 differential.
It’s only the second time in nine campaigns since being drafted with the 2014 first-round amateur auction pick that he’s posted a negative record.
