The Slovenian needed just 10 minutes to score his sixth hat trick in the second period. He became the fourth oldest player to score a hat-trick in a Kings uniform (35 years and 188 days). Kopitar still has a few years ahead of him before thinking about beating Luc Robitaille’s record, who accomplished the feat at 39 years and 336 days, in 2006.

Since it was still not enough, the center player hit the target again at the start of the third period, with a powerful slap shot. Kopitar’s last four-goal game was five years earlier, in March 2018.

Gabriel Vilardi tied the game 5-5 with 4:06 left in regular time. In the shootout, Adrian Kempe was the only player able to shake the ropes.

On the side of the Jets, Kevin Stenlund and defenseman Josh Morrissey scored twice. The latter concluded his evening of work with four points.

Kopitar wasn’t the only one to fill the net on Tuesday night. Eric Robinson of the Columbus Blue Jackets also had a hat trick in a 5-3 win over the Buffalo Sabres.
