NHL: Former Canadian Shea Weber and six others in the Hall of Fame

Former Montreal Canadiens defenseman Shea Weber will be one of seven new members inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.

Weber will be joined by Pavel Datsyuk, Jeremy Roenick, Natalie Darwitz and Krissy Wendell-Pohl, as well as Colin Campbell and David Poile as builders, at the induction ceremony on November 11.

Weber, who is immortalized in his first year of eligibility, played 1,038 career games with the Nashville Predators and the Canadiens from 2005 to 2021. He scored 224 goals and totaled 589 points. He has never lifted the Stanley Cup, but has two Olympic gold medals, obtained in 2010 and 2014.

Weber also won the Memorial Cup in 2004 with the Kelowna Rockets of the Western Junior Hockey League.

“I want to say thank you to everyone on the selection committee,” Weber commented during a conference call. I have no words, I’m still in shock. I do not believe it. I can’t thank everyone enough who helped me play in the National Hockey League (NHL).”

“I didn’t expect this honor. »

Weber looked back at the end of his career with the Habs. His last game was the fifth duel of the Stanley Cup final, on July 7, 2021, at the end of which the Tampa Bay Lightning were crowned champions.

“Obviously, we would have liked to bring the cup back to Montreal. We didn’t succeed, but I enjoyed my stay in Montreal. My children grew up there and went to school there.

“I had a great career. I wish it was longer, but the body tells you when it’s time [d’arrêter]. It was a difficult moment. Mentally, I felt like I could still compete, but physically, I had nothing left to give. »
